The National Weather Service warns freezing rain and drizzle are expected Friday night in central and southern Maine, from York County up to Somerset, including the greater Portland area.
Precipitation is expected to start around 7 p.m. and last until 10 a.m. Saturday.
“Difficult travel conditions are possible due to icy road conditions. This is especially true on untreated side roads,” the weather service reports.
Forecasters also warn that walking or going down outdoor stairs could be slippery.
A similar winter weather advisory is in effect Saturday morning for northern and Down East Maine.
Temperatures are supposed to warm up across the state on Sunday and the weather service expects several days over 50 degrees to start next week.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
