Gerard Boutin and wife Susan Boutin of Winslow pass the Friends Church bell Tuesday displayed by the Winthrop History and Heritage Center in downtown Winthrop. The bell, made at the Meneely Company in West Troy, N.Y., in 1883, is 48 inches wide at the base. The bell hung for nearly 140 years in the Friends Church (Quaker) located in Winthrop Center, originally known as Baileyville, according to a plaque placed next to the bell.
