Avis R. Millett
WINTHROP – Avis R. Millett of Ocala, Florida, and Winthrop. She was born in Winthrop, on April 11, 1926, the daughter of Carl and Mina (Howe) Richards. She attended East Winthrop Elementary School and graduated from Winthrop High School in 1943. She attended Gates Business School in Augusta, and worked for the Westinghouse Electric Corporation and then for the State of Maine where she retired as an accountant from the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. For several years during retirement Avis and her first husband worked part time at Bob Barrows Chevrolet in Winthrop.
For many years they enjoyed their cottage on Lake Maranacook, boating, waterskiing, motorcycling, snowmobiling, and RVing with the Good Sam Club and Winnebago – Itases Travelers.
In 2006 she married a high school classmate, Paul. R. Millett. They moved permanently to Ocala, Florida, in 2009 where they very happily enjoyed their new life together until Paul’s death in 2012.
Avis was a member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors and the Maine Chapter 89, the Kennebec Historical Society, Maine Old Cemetery Association, North Central Florida Post Polio Support Group, Associate member of the Battle of the Bulge and the Southwest Christian Church of Ocala.
She was predeceased by husbands, John P. Arata and Paul R. Millett, her parents’ two brothers, Joseph and Lloyd Richards, two sisters, Virginia R. Jones and Glenis R. Davis, stepsons, Ryan J. Arata and Carl G. Arata, stepdaughter, Violette Bernier, stepdaughter, Joyce A. Perry and husband William, and niece, Judith Jones Norberg Serra.
She is survived by her stepson, LTC (R) Richard G. Millett and wife Jill; one stepdaughter, Julie M. Clark and husband Ronald Sr; nephews, Barry L. Jones and wife Sue; John A. Davis and wife Celeste; and Rev. Joseph R. Davis and wife Gail.
The family will receive condolences on Friday, June 5, 2026, at 10 a.m., at Roberts Funeral Home, located at 62 Bowdoin Street, Winthrop, Maine, where a funeral service will follow immediately at 11 a.m., burial will follow at Readfield Corner Cemetery, Readfield.
