Law enforcement officials are searching for two men suspected of taking part in multiple burglaries in Androscoggin County early Friday.
The two suspects were spotted at one point in a vehicle stolen from an Auburn residence that was later recovered in Westbrook, the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Friday night.
Deputies were dispatched after Maine State Police received a burglary alarm for Northeastern Firearms on Auburn Road in Turner at about 3:20 a.m. on Friday, the sheriff’s office said.
Cpl. Gregory Pealatere was en route about 3:35 a.m. when a vehicle without its headlights on pulled out of the parking lot of Vacationland Cannabis, also on Auburn Road in Turner, the sheriff’s office said.
He pursued the vehicle, identified as a gray 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning, but lost sight of it, the sheriff’s office said.
Meanwhile, deputies had responded to the cannabis shop and discovered it had been burglarized, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies also determined there was an attempted burglary at Northeastern Firearms, but the perpetrators had not gained access.
Deputies obtained a plate number for the F-150 and determined it had been stolen from a residence on Marston Hill Road in Auburn, the sheriff’s office said. It was later recovered on Pennell Street in Westbrook by local police.
Earlier, at about 1:10 a.m., law enforcement had responded to First Due Firearms on Greene Street in Sabattus for an attempted burglary, the sheriff’s office said. That incident is being investigated by the Sabattus Police Department and is believed to be connected, the sheriff’s office said.
Video was obtained of the two suspects and the sheriff’s office is seeking the public’s aid in finding them. Both appear to be white men, the sheriff’s office said. One was wearing a black North Face jacket with black athletic pants and sneakers, while the other had a gray Alaskan Hardgear jacket with a “Spang Builders” logo on the left chest, blue sweatpants and red sneakers with white soles.
Evidence was also recovered at the scenes of the burglaries and vehicle theft, the sheriff’s office said, and the investigation is ongoing.
Those with information are asked to contact Detective Nathan McNally at 752-2566.
