Isaac Barr, Greely senior

A year after sharing the 100-yard breaststroke title at the Class B meet, Barr won the championship outright with a time of 57.69 seconds. He also placed second in the 200 individual medley (2:00.31) and raced the second leg of the meet record-setting 200 medley relay. At North Southwesterns, Barr won the 100 breast and placed second in the 100 backstroke. He plans to continue his career at Bates College.

Eli Burnham, Cony sophomore

At the Class A state meet, Burnham swam the fastest 200 IM (1:57.52) of the season and was the runner-up in the 100 backstroke (52.45). At KVACs, he won the 200 IM and 500 freestyle (4:56.93). All three of those marks were in the state’s top three, regardless of class.

Will Harmon, Cape Elizabeth senior

Harmon won the 200 freestyle (1:46.76) and 500 free (4:53.90) at the Class B championships while also leading off the third-place 400 free relay team. At North Southwesterns, he won the 500 free and placed second in the 200.

Cavan Jester, Ellsworth senior

Jester swept the 50 freestyle (22.02) and 100 free (47.66) at the Class B and KVAC championships. Both state meet marks were the state’s second-fastest of the season. He kicked off the Class B meet by swimming 200 free relay (runner-up) and was also on the 200 medley relay (fourth place). He plans to attend UMaine, where he hopes to continue his swimming career.

Caden LaPlante, Lawrence freshman

LaPlante was the only swimmer to break a state record this season, and the Varsity Maine Boys Swimmer of the Year reset the 100 butterfly standard twice. He owned the state’s best times of the season in the 50 freestyle (21.75), 100 butterfly (48.81) and 100 breaststroke (57.37), with the latter two coming at the Class A championships. He added another state title as the third leg in the 200 medley relay and was named performer of the meet.

Andy Marvin, Portland senior

At the Class A championships, Marvin won the 50 freestyle (22.05), placed second in the 100 free (47.85) and was the anchor leg for the runner-up 200 and 400 free relays. At North Southwesterns, he won the 50 and 100 free. He plans to continue his career at Trinity College in Connecticut.

Fletcher McDonough, Morse junior

McDonough defended his Class B diving title with an 11-dive score of 465.40 points, a state-meet record. His season-best score of 483.25 also set a program record. He helped the Shipbuilders repeat as Class B champions with a fifth-place finish in the 100 backstroke and as the anchor leg for the fourth-place 400 freestyle relay.

Patrick Saltysiak, MDI senior

The repeat Varsity Maine All-State selection was named performer of the Class B meet after winning his third straight 100 backstroke title, his first in the 100 butterfly (52.73) and leading off the runner-up 400 free and third-place 200 medley relays. At the KVAC B meet, Saltysiak won the 100 back (52.53) and 100 fly. He also was the Class B indoor track champion in the pole vault this winter.

Malcolm Sprague, Falmouth senior

Sprague posted Maine’s fastest backstroke of the season (52.29) at the Class A state meet and was the runner-up in the 200 freestyle (1:46.59). The repeat Varsity Maine All-State selection was also part of the winning 200 and 400 free relays, which helped the Navigators repeat as Class A champs. Sprague won the 100 back and was second in the 100 butterfly at North Southwesterns. He plans to continue his career at Mary Washington University in Virginia.

Carter VerLee, Falmouth sophomore

VerLee was the only boys swimmer to leave the Class A meet with four gold medals. He won the 100 freestyle (47.33), successfully defended his title in the 200 free (1:42.95), and anchored the winning 200 and 400 free relays. His 100 and 200 freestyle times were both the best in Maine this season. At North Southwesterns, he won the 200 free and was second in the 100 free.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Spencer Hallowell, Morse: A year ago, the Shipbuilders dominated the Class B championship meet, winning nine of the 12 events and claiming their first title in 20 years. Although Hallowell lost a strong senior class to graduation, the program did not lose its spot at the top of Class B this winter. Morse repeated as state champion with two wins — in diving and the 200 freestyle relay, both of which were meet records — two top-four relay finishes, and at least two scorers in every other event but one, beating Greely (352 to 326) by the narrowest Class B state meet margin since 2018.
