Hammer was chosen as the top performer of the Class A championship meet after winning her third straight title in the 100 freestyle (53.17) and defending her crown in the 100 backstroke (57.49). Both times were the second-fastest of the season in Maine. She won both events in the KVAC Class A meet for the third straight year. She plans to continue her career at Bowdoin College.
COACH OF THE YEAR
Patrick McArdle, Falmouth: The Navigators had zero participants in more state championship events (100 breaststroke, 500 freestyle, diving) than they had victories (200 freestyle relay), but thanks to the team’s depth (four scorers in three events), McArdle’s squad took a celebratory dip for the first time since 2009. The program’s first Class A title came nearly three weeks after it placed fourth overall, and second among Class A teams, at North Southwesterns. McArdle also coached the Falmouth boys team to its second straight state championship.
Proud to support Varsity Maine All-Region players and teams.
