Max Andreev scored twice and assisted on the go-ahead power-play goal by Jacob Hudson, and the Maine Mariners moved closer to clinching an ECHL playoff berth by extending their winning streak to four with a 3-2 win Saturday afternoon against the Greensboro Gargoyles at Cross Insurance Arena in Portland.
Andreev’s first goal, at 19:18 of the first period, gave the Mariners a 1-0 lead. Greensboro’s David Gagnon tied it early in the second period, but Hudson’s 21st goal of the season made it 2-1, and Andreev added another power-play goal later in the second.
Brad Arvanitis made 23 saves for the Mariners, who began the day six points behind North Division leader Wheeling.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
