ALPINE
Jackson Archer, Spruce Mountain sophomore
Archer made a splash in his sophomore season, earning first- and seventh-place finishes in the MVC slalom and giant slalom, respectively. He also placed ninth in Class B giant slalom and 20th in slalom.
Tucker Barnaby, Fryeburg Academy senior
Barnaby closed out his high school career by winning Western Maine Conference and Class A slalom titles, and placing second in Class A giant slalom. He also finished first in slalom at Easterns, pacing a field with 10 skiers from Maine.
Ian Christie, Falmouth senior
Christie dominated the SMAA championships with first-place finishes in both giant slalom and slalom. He placed fourth in both events at the Class A state meet to help Falmouth to its third consecutive state championship.
Merrik Iacozili, Fryeburg Academy senior
Iacozili won the WMC and Class A giant slalom titles, and was right behind Fryeburg’s Tucker Barnaby in slalom at the state championships.
Tristan Riley, Maranacook senior
Riley won the Class B slalom and finished third in giant slalom. He also won the MVC giant slalom title.
Reed Michaud, Fort Kent
Michaud won the Class B giant slalom title and was the runner-up in the slalom, leading the Warriors to the team title. He also was the Aroostook League champion in the slalom. At the Easter High School Championships, he skied the fastest time of any age group in the giant slalom and was the top U16 skier in the GS and the slalom.
Dylan Cobb, Poland junior
Cobb placed third at the Class A championships in both the slalom and giant slalom after taking third in the Western Maine Conference in the slalom and fourth in the GS.
Cooper Dodge, York senior
Dodge skied to second-place finishes in the giant slalom at the Class B and Western Maine Conference championships, while placing third in the slalom at both postseason events.
NORDIC
Jack Borland, Deering senior
Borland swept the Class A classical and freestyle titles. He finished 10th at the Sassi Memorial 5K and had the fastest time in the SMAA boys pursuit to help Deering finish second.
Sam Geissinger, Spruce Mountain senior
Geissinger finished 13th in the Sassi Memorial, setting the tone for a successful postseason run. He finished first in both the freestyle and classical races at the MVC championships, and was 19th in the Class A freestyle.
Xander Gordon, Yarmouth senior
Gordon was the WMC freestyle champion and placed second in classical. He also won the Class B classical and freestyle races, leading Yarmouth to its second straight title. Gordon finished third at the Sassi Memorial 5K.
Leif Hellstedt, Yarmouth junior
Hellstedt started the season well, placing second in the Sassi Memorial. He was also the WMC classical champion and placed second in freestyle, then was the runner-up in both events at the Class B championships.
Alden Reardon, Fort Kent senior
Reardon, the Varsity Maine Boys Skier of the Year, showcased his dominance all season with wins on the biggest stages. The senior swept the Class C titles and skied the fastest times, regardless of class, in both freestyle and classical at the state championships, helping Fort Kent win its fourth straight team title. He also placed first at the Sassi Memorial, and won the classical and freestyle races at the Aroostook Nordic Championships.
Daire Woodruff, Brunswick junior
Woodruff swept the KVAC classical, freestyle and pursuit titles, then placed third in all three races at the Class A championships.
Jackie Chalmers, Yarmouth sophomore
Chalmers placed third in the Class B pursuit after finishing third in the freestyle and fourth in classical. Also took third in classical and fourth in pursuit at the Western Maine Conference championships.
Thomas Hubbell, Fryeburg junior
Hubbell took second in the pursuit at the Class A championships after finishing fourth in the classical and second in freestyle.
Coach of the Year
John Weston, Fryeburg Academy: Weston helped the Raiders to their first Class A boys Nordic championship since 2011. Fryeburg topped the field of 11 schools with 780 points. The longtime head coach had four skiers (Thomas Hubbell, William McDonnell, Sigurd Nyheim and Oren Monteith) place in the top 25 in the Class A freestyle race.
