The Somerset Patriots hit five home runs and pounded out 22 hits Friday night on the way to an 18-2 win over the Portland Sea Dogs in an Eastern League season opener in Bridgewater, New Jersey.
Somerset smashed three home runs in the first inning, including a leadoff blast by top New York Yankees prospect George Lombard Jr., who went 5 for 6. Marco Luciano was 4 for 5 and scored five runs, Tyler Hardman was 4 for 5 with a home run and four RBI, and Coby Morales homered twice and drove in six runs.
The Sea Dogs, meanwhile, were held to three hits — two by Franklin Arias. Max Ferguson hit a solo home run.
