In their first season in 2025, the Portland Hearts of Pine posted an 11-7-12 regular-season record to finish seventh in USL League One. In the playoffs, Portland upset the No. 2 Chattanooga Red Wolves behind the brilliance of top scorer Ollie Wright and goalkeeper Hunter Morse before falling in penalty kicks in the semifinal at the Spokane Velocity. This season’s 26-player roster is evenly split between returners and newcomers.
This season Portland will play a 32-game USL1 schedule plus four games in the USL Cup and three exhibition “friendly” matches, two at Fitzpatrick Stadium, which has sold out for all 20 home dates.

About: Morse was Portland’s ironman in net in 2025, starting all 32 USL League One matches and leading the league in saves. A Michigan native who played at Michigan State and Western Michigan universities, Morse started his pro career with FC Cincinnati (51st pick in 2023 MLS draft) and made 12 appearances for its MLS Next Pro team across the 2023 and 2024 seasons.

About: Oladapo saw limited time in his rookie season in Portland, making two appearances in USL Cup matches. Oladapo made his first USL1 start — and earned his first clean sheet with three saves — on March 21 at AV Alta. About: Jones-Riley was the starter at right back for Portland at the beginning of the 2025 season before suffering a season-ending knee injury. He was among the initial group of players re-signed for 2026 and made his return to the pitch March 28 at Sarasota. The three-year starter at the University of Dayton played in 47 games over two seasons with Portland Timbers 2 in MLS NextPro. He was drafted in the third round by the Timbers in 2023.

About: Armour was in the MLS as a teenager, scoring the first goal in Charlotte FC’s history in 2022. Weeks later, the former United States U-17 member (19 caps) had his soaring trajectory flattened by a season-ending knee injury after playing in five MLS matches. Another knee surgery followed in 2023 while with FC Tulsa in the USL Championship. Armour did not play in 2024 and caught on with a lower-tiered German side for the latter part of 2025. In training sessions he’s looked strong at left back and is one of the five Hearts players to play in all four matches (three starts).

About: Signed by the Hearts in May 2025, Mohamed appeared in 17 USL1 games, primarily at right back, offering an opposite-field counter to the Hearts’ strong left-side combo of all-USL1 back Nathan Messer (now starting with Charleston Battery in USL Championship) and Ollie Wright. He scored one goal in USL Cup match against Detroit City FC. A college teammate of forward Titus Washington at Seattle University, he missed one game this season while on international duty for Somalia (dual citizenship).

About: A key offseason acquisition after being a second-team All-USL1 center back with FC Naples in 2025, the left-footed, 6-foot-4 veteran, started the first match of 2026 at New York Cosmos but has been out since then with an injury. He began his pro career as 19-year-old captain for 2019 USL1 champs North Texas. An avid outdoorsman, Evans earned a masters degree in finance in 2024.

About: Coming out of Inter Miami’s Academy, Esteban signed with ill-fated USL Championship squad Queensboro FC, which never played a match. He has played professionally in Brazil and Portugal, and last season with RWDM Molenbeek in Belgium. He has started two of the three USL1 games this season, playing the full match each time, at center back.

About: A first-year pro out of Syracuse University (also played at Xavier), Mensah has started each of the past three games (including the U.S. Open Cup loss at Vermont Green). About: A left-footed 6-foot-3 winger/left back with excellent speed, Scarlett, 21, is already in his fifth professional season. A childhood friend of Hearts center back Kemali Green, he played sparingly in two seasons with Columbus Crew 2 (2022-23), appeared in 21 USL1 games and 29 overall for Greenville Triumph in 2024, and made 14 appearances with MLS Next Pro squad Carolina Core FC last season.

About: A 6-foot-3 center back signed in the offseason, Faye is playing in the United States for the first time. After missing much of the preseason, he started and played the entire game in the U.S. Open Cup match at Vermont but has only played one minute in the three USL1 matches. His last three seasons have been spent in Bulgaria.

About: Green has been a consistent starter at center back since the 2025 opener. He did miss some time with injury, but started in all 24 USL1 matches he played. This season, he has been a rare constant for injury-riddled Hearts, playing 359 of a possible 360 minutes. He played with new teammate Zion Scarlett in Philadelphia Union Academy program before going to Temple University, where he started every game in 2023 and 2024.

No. 5 – MIKEY LOPEZ

About: Portland’s captain for most of the franchise’s inaugural season, the former first-round MLS pick played for Hearts coach Bobby Murphy at a Texas development academy in grades 8-12. Spent five seasons in MLS and seven in USL Championship. After Achilles surgery wiped out his 2024 season, Lopez played in 31 of Portland’s 32 USL1 matches with 27 starts to earn USL1 2025 Comeback Player of the Year.
No. 8 – MICHEL POON-ANGERON

About: The first player officially signed by the Hearts of Pine, Poon-Angeron has become a fixture at center midfield. He appeared in 30 league matches with 25 starts and had two assists. He started each of the club’s first four games this season. His pro career started in the Trinidad and Tobago Premier League. He has made 17 international appearances for T&T, most recently in February 2025.

About: A breakout star and second-team all-USL1 pick in 2025, Wright led Portland in goals and assists, notching 13 goals and eight assists across all matches (11 goals, 8 assists in 32 USL1 matches). Known for his clever ball handling along the left wing with an ability to bolt to the middle of the field and shoot with accuracy, he played one season with San Antonio FC in the USL Championship, then set Huntsville City FC (MLS Next Pro) franchise records for all-time appearances and assists.

About: Because of visa issues, the 5-foot-3 Kamara was unable to join the Hearts until mid-May in 2025. He quickly became a fan favorite, scoring a goal in his first game (also Portland’s first league win), and showing dribbling skills and strength to bedevil defenders. He scored six goals with four assists in 25 USL1 games in 2025 and had an assist in the season-opening 3-1 win at New York.

About: Barbosa is in his first season in a U.S. league. A sturdy, versatile midfielder, he’s appeared in three games with one start. Barbosa has played in Portugal, England, Cyprus, Australia, Bulgaria, and most recently in the Maltese Premier League. Seldom has played in more than 10 matches in a season. His career high is 31 in 2023-24 season in Bulgaria.

About: The former standout at Lewiston High used the Hearts’ open tryout sessions to become the first Maine resident signed by the team prior to 2025. He saw limited action as a rookie in non-league games, making a positive impression in lone start in a friendly against the Halifax Wanderers. He has not played yet this season but was on travel roster to Sarasota. He played for University of Southern Maine in 2023, then Wahda United FC of United Premier Soccer League.

From: Henderson, Kentucky/Cyprus
Pro since: rookie
About: An older first-year pro, the 5-foot-7 attacking midfielder/forward was a standout at UCLA in 2025, scoring five goals with three assists, with two goals in Big Ten championship win against Michigan. Born in the United States, Georgallides grew up in Cyprus and played in the country’s first-division pro league at 16. Prior to UCLA, he played three seasons at Louisville and one at UNC-Greensboro. He scored a goal in his first game with the Hearts and has made two starts.

About: The 2025 NESCAC Player of the Year at Bowdoin College, Huck was a practice player who impressed and signed his first pro contract March 12. He’s already appeared in two USL1 games, including a 60-minute stint as a starter at Sarasota. He grew up in London prior to family moving to northern California when he was 11. In four seasons at Bowdoin, he scored 34 goals with 19 assists.

From: Yokohama, Japan

About: In his first season playing in America, Wada delivered nine goals in 27 matches and was named to the All-USL1 first team. A hard-nosed player who is also extremely skilled, Wada scored the Hearts’ first goal at Fitzpatrick Stadium. A former member of Japan’s U-19 national team, he’s started each of the first four games this season.

DOB: March 4, 1998

About: A relatively late signing in the preseason, Kidd spent the past two seasons with St. Louis City 2 in MLS Next Pro (10 goals, 41 games), playing for Hearts coach Bobby Murphy in 2024. Kidd played at NCAA powerhouse St. Louis University. He got his pro start with Chicago House AC of the NISA league in 2021, then spent two seasons with Chicago Fire 2 in MLS Next Pro. He made an immediate impact with the Hearts, appearing in each game with two starts.
FORWARDS
No. 7 – WALTER VARELA
DOB: March 20, 1997
From: Praia, Cape Verde

About: Varela scored the Hearts’ first goal — on his birthday — in the U.S. Open Cup game at Lewiston High in 2025. After initially being released following his four-goal season in 2025 (two in USL1 games), Varela was re-signed over the winter. A National Junior College Division III All-American at Bunker Hill Community College, he has not played in the first four matches of 2026.
No. 9 – ABOUBACAR CAMARA
DOB: March 30, 2002
From: Upper Darby, Pennsylvania
Pro since: rookie
About: Camara scored a goal in his first USL1 game in 3-1 win at New York Cosmos. Like Green and Scarlett, Camara played in the Philadelphia Union Academy program. He played for three Division I college programs: three seasons at Louisville (25 goals), leading the Cardinals in scoring each season; one season at Kentucky and a grad year at Penn State (5 goals in 11 games in 2024).
No. 14 – TITUS WASHINGTON
DOB: Aug. 9, 2000
From: Carlsbad, California
Pro since: 2025
About: Washington had a successful first season in Portland, battling through injuries to score eight goals with four assists, with five goals and three assists in 28 USL1 matches. A powerful target at 6-foot-1, 188 pounds, Washington showed he was also adept while moving forward at speed. Washington has been slowed by injuries this season, appearing in two of the four matches with one start, but remains a top option at striker.
No. 32 – EMILIANO TERZAGHI
DOB: March 6, 1993
From: Buenos Aires, Argentina
Pro since: 2011
About: A three-time USL League One Player of the Year with the Richmond Kickers, Terzaghi is the league’s all-time goal scorer with 62 strikes in six seasons, all with Richmond. Portland signed him Jan. 5. A late arrival in preseason because of visa issues, Terzaghi has played in three games with one start. Expect him to share the striker role with Washington and possibly other players.

DOB: Oct. 20, 1998
From: Clarkston, Georgia
Pro since: 2017
About: Coming off a knee surgery that cost him the 2025 season, Kunga is still working his way back to form. In 2024 he scored 10 goals for Union Omaha in USL1. Born in Angola, Kunga and his family moved to Russia and then the United States when he was a child. He represented the U.S. at the U-20 level in 2017. From 2017-20 he appeared in 64 USL Championship matches with four clubs.
