Gregory Michael Bisson

SKOWHEGAN – Gregory Michael Bisson, 82, passed away on April 11, 2026. He was born June 4, 1943, at Bath Memorial Hospital to Valdor and Anne (Shusta) Bisson. In 1945, the family moved to Madison,mn when Valdor served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Gregory graduated from Madison Memorial High School in 1961. He was a proud graduate of the University of Maine, earning a bachelor’s degree in education in 1965. He later earned a Master of Science degree from the University of Maine at Farmington in 1971 and his Certificate of Advanced Studies from UMF.

From 1965 to 1992, Gregory taught U.S. Government and Geography at Skowhegan Area High School. Mr. Bisson was a well respected educator, remembered for his dedication to his students and his profession. In 1987, he was honored with the SAHS Lever Award, presented by the yearbook committee.

Gregory was a communicant of Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church in Skowhegan. He was also a member of the Skowhegan Madison BPOE and the Skowhegan Eagles.

After being diagnosed with diabetes, Gregory developed a love for running and participated in numerous 10K races throughout Maine. His favorite was Benjamin’s 10K in Bangor. He was also an avid skier and a familiar weekend presence at Sugarloaf Mountain. A lifelong sports fan, he faithfully followed Notre Dame football, the University of Maine, the Boston Red Sox, the New England Patriots, and the Boston Bruins.

He is survived by his son, Michael Bisson, and Michael’s wife, Jodi, of Hampden; his granddaughter, Mikaila Dunning, her husband, Matthew Dunning; and his great-grandson, Theo Dunning, all of Holden.

In his later years, Gregory was deeply grateful for the care and kindness shown to him by his neighborhood community. Special thanks are extended to Kris and Erin LePage and their daughter, Emilia, who affectionately called him “Grampa Greg”; Alan and Laurie LePage, Toby and Liza Hight and their son, Kaeson, and the Maine State Police Troop C. Because of their support, Gregory was able to remain in his home during his final years.

A funeral mass will be held Friday, April 17, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Christ the King Parish in Skowhegan, followed by a reception at Somerset Valley Remembrance Center. Rite of Interment will be held on May 11, 2026, at 9:45 a.m. at Father Rasle Cemetery in Madison.
