John Holobetz struck out 11 and allowed only one hit over seven dominant innings, but Titus Dumitru’s home run in the fifth inning propelled the Altoona Curve to a 2-0 win over the Portland Sea Dogs in an Eastern League game Saturday in Altoona, Pennsylvania.
Holobetz (1-1) retired the first 13 batters before Dumitru lofted a fly ball over the center-field wall. The only other Altoona base runners were a walk later in the fifth and a home run by Shawn Ross off reliever Jedixon Paez in the eighth.
Three Altoona pitchers combined on a seven-hitter. Dominic Perachi (1-0) lasted six innings, allowing three hits and two walks.
Nelly Taylor had two hits for the Sea Dogs, who grounded into three double plays.
