Marianne Brown Damon

SCARBOROUGH – Marianne Brown Damon “Nonnie”, 86, of Scarborough, Maine, passed away peacefully from pancreatic cancer on April 13, 2026, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

Marianne was born in New York City on August 5, 1939, to Anne and Raymond Leone. She grew up in Greenwich Village and spent her early years in Manhattan and Staten Island, where her grandparents and many cousins lived. She was proud of her Italian heritage and spent over a year living in Bonito, Italy, with her paternal grandfather.

In 1959, Marianne married Raymond Brown, whom she met on a blind date while Ray was in the Army. They moved to his hometown of Winthrop, Maine, where they settled and raised three children. The pace was quite different from New York City, but Marianne quickly came to love Winthrop. She always kept a closet full of shoes, a small piece of New York that stayed with her. After many years in Winthrop, they purchased a home on Lake Annabessacook, where they enjoyed relaxing on the back deck overlooking the water.

In 1977, Marianne and her husband opened Leone’s Pizza Parlor in Monmouth, Maine. They loved working side by side and were proud of the business they built. During this time, Marianne enjoyed getting to know the people of Monmouth. She sold the business after Ray’s untimely passing in 1991.

In 1995, Marianne married Carl Damon, whom she met through mutual friends, and moved to Poland, Maine. They lived on a beautiful rural property with a pool, where they hosted many family gatherings and grandchildren sleepovers. Marianne, known as “Nonnie” to her grandchildren, especially cherished her time with them and took great joy in teaching them how to swim and dive, and make Christmas cookies. In 2017, as Carl’s health declined, she moved to Scarborough to be closer to her daughters.

Marianne was a devoted homemaker while raising her three children. She was an accomplished seamstress and an excellent cook. She enjoyed painting, crocheting, and other arts and crafts, and loved sharing these passions with her children and grandchildren.

Marianne was predeceased by her parents, Anne and Raymond Leone; her sister, Linda Leone; her first husband, Raymond K. Brown; her second husband, Carl E. Damon; and her son, Raymond W. Brown.

She is survived by her daughters, Linda Swallow and her husband Albert of Estero, Fla., and Maria Masselli and her husband Tom of Scarborough; her brother, Raymond Leone and his wife Angela of McLean, Va.; her niece, Gena Leone of Nashville, Tenn.; and her four beloved grandchildren, Alexandra Swallow of Reno, Nev., Anastasia Swallow of Somerville, Mass., Kelsey Masselli of Watertown, Mass., and Domonic Masselli of Scarborough.

A private family service will be held, with burial at Glenside Cemetery in Winthrop, Maine.
