Franklin Arias hit a pinch-hit two-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning Saturday afternoon, lifting the Portland Sea Dogs to a 4-3 win over the Hartford Yard Goats in an Eastern League game at Hadlock Field.
The home run was the seventh in his last nine games for the 20-year-old shortstop, Boston’s No. 2 minor league prospect behind recently promoted pitcher Payton Tolle. Yard Goats reliever Fidel Ulloa retired the first two batters in the ninth, but Will Turner was hit by a pitch, and Arias followed with an opposite-field drive over the right-field wall.
Brooks Brannon hit a solo home run for the Sea Dogs in the sixth inning. Tyler McDonough opened the scoring for Portland in the third inning when he raced home from second base on a throwing error.
Reliever P.J. Labriola was credited with the win in his first appearance since he was promoted from Class A Greenville. He pitched 1 1/3 innings, with one strikeout and two hits allowed.
