Charlene H. Call

BURNHAM – Charlene H. Call, 91, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 29, 2026.

Charlene was born March 22, 1935, in Burnham, to Lloyd and Frances (Miles) Hunt. She grew up on the family farm with her siblings, Joyce, Edward, Rebecca and Crystal. Saturdays were set aside for dancing at many of the local dance halls. Those memories of the whole family being together stayed with Mom, even when she had trouble remembering what happened five minutes ago, those were clear and cherished. Living on the farm in a multi-generational family left her with a lifetime of treasured memories which gave her great comfort in her final days.

She graduated from MCI with her sister Joyce, who she remained close to throughout their lives. After graduation, she and Joyce moved to Waterville where Joyce continued her education and Charlene went to work at Hollingsworth & Whitney. This led to crossing the 2 Cent Bridge twice a day, an enjoyable memory that lasted until her passing.

She met and married Maurice Call of Troy and they spent the next 63 years together until his passing in 2019. They had two children, a son Kendall (Vicky) and a daughter Rhonda; three grandchildren, Morgan Call (Bailie) son of Kendall and Vicky, Kristen Morin (Jeff) and Tim Averell, children of Rhonda; one great-grandson, Oliver (who is the absolute apple of all our eyes) son of Kristen and Jeff.

Mom’s sense of family was beyond belief and always extended to friends. That was a life lesson instilled in her by our grandparents. Everyone was always welcomed at the farm.

After Rhonda and I had gotten a bit older, Mom decided it was time to return to the workforce. At first she worked for a couple local companies in Pittsfield. Then she was offered and accepted a job at Brunswick Naval Air Station, a job she truly loved and retired from.

Mom was a lifetime member of the Josiah H. Drummond Eastern Star in Unity. Many of her friends were members of Eastern Star and she traveled extensively with her sister Joyce, along with many others, to meetings throughout the state.

She is survived by her children and their families; sisters Rebecca and Crystal (Arthur); and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, Maurice; her parents, Lloyd and Frances; her sister, Joyce, and brother, Edward.

There will be an Eastern Star graveside service at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 11, at the Pond Cemetery, Kanokolus Road, Unity. A celebration of life luncheon will follow at Kendall and Vicky’s home in Burnham after the service. All are welcome.
