Cheverus is the favorite to win Class A, as it probably will every year Florida State-bound junior Addison DeRoche takes the circle. It’s up to the rest of the state to figure out a way to take down the Stags, who are the top-ranked team in the first Varsity Maine softball poll of the season.
Windham found a way to slay the giant last year, then won the Class A title and was the unanimous choice for No. 1 in the final Varsity Maine poll of the season. The Eagles are second in this week’s rankings and garnered a couple of first-place votes.
Also notable: reigning Class B champion Medomak Valley comes in fourth, while Lewiston’s hot 3-0 start has resulted in a sixth-place ranking.
The Varsity Maine softball poll is based on games played before April 28, 2026. The top 10 teams are voted on by the Varsity Maine staff, with first-place votes in parentheses, followed by total points.
