Carrabec built a 10-0 lead in the second inning and held off a furious comeback by Buckfield to earn its first softball win of the season Tuesday, beating the Bucks 14-11 in Buckfield.

Amiya Tibbetts drove in four runs with a triple and a single for Carrabec (1-1), and Ava Welch was 3 for 5 with two doubles, three RBI and three runs scored. Winning pitcher Jillian Robinson was 3 for 4 and drove in two runs.

Buckfield’s 3-4-5 hitters — Chloee Bennett, Brooklyn Richardson and Grace Veinott — combined for 11 hits and eight RBI. Bennett had two triples, a double and a single and scored four times, Richardson was 4 for 5 with three RBI, and Veinott was also a home run shy of a cycle while driving in three runs.

The Bucks are 1-3.

OLD ORCHARD BEACH 9, VALLEY 1: Hannah Webber pitched a one-hitter and drove in two runs with a single and a double as the Seagulls (2-0) defeated the Cavaliers (0-3) in Bingham.

Old Orchard Beach collected 13 hits, including two each by Reagan Partridge, Emilia Michaud, Sammy Darling and Corinne Androkitis, who had two RBI.

Daisy Wright got the lone hit for Valley.

SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 13, MT. ABRAM 8: Devin Bryant went 3 for 4 and drove in three runs for the Phoenix, who started fast and held on for a season-opening victory over the Roadrunners (0-3) in Jay.

Laya Spear brought in four runs on two hits for Spruce Mountain. Santika Hodgkin also finished with three hits, and Ashley Nelson and Sophie Foss contributed two apiece.

Spruce Mountain’s Rylee Turner pitched six of the seven innings and struck out nine batters while allowing one run to earn the win.

The Phoenix plated seven runs in the first inning, four in the second and one in the third to take a 12-0 lead. Mt. Abram (0-3) got back in the game with three runs in the fourth, four in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Celia Rose led the Roadrunners with two hits, including a double, and drove in a run.

BASEBALL

CONY 13, LAWRENCE 5: Parker Morin went 5 for 5 as the Rams took down the Bulldogs in a Class B North clash in Augusta.

Cony (2-0) had three-run rallies in the first, fifth and sixth innings. The Rams scored four runs in the second.

Lawrence fell to 1-2.
