Dale B. Linton
MONMOUTH – Dale B. Linton, 93, of Monmouth, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2026, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Born on Nov. 29, 1932, the son of Clarence Lawrence Linton and Bertha A. (Libby) Linton.
Dale cherished 70 wonderful years of marriage with his devoted and loving wife, Norma (Maxwell). Her steadfast love and companionship were truly the foundation of his life. Dale often remarked that Norma deserved sainthood for her endless love and patience through all their years together. Their lasting bond was a beautiful testament to faith and commitment.
Dale is survived by his loving wife Norma; his devoted daughter, Libby Gowell, and son-in-law, Kevin Gowell, Sr., whose love and support provided strength and comfort to both Dale and Norma throughout his life.
Dale was predeceased by his parents, Bertha and Clare; his cherished sons Kenneth and Alan, daughter-in-law Patricia; and his beloved granddaughter, Catherine.
He was blessed with a large family of grandchildren, each of whom he adored. Dale often joked that, as an only child, he alone was responsible for the ever-growing family tree, taking playful pride in witnessing his legacy flourish through the generations. He leaves behind several grandchildren, Jonathan, Shannon, Blaine, Cassandra, Tanya, Kevin Jr., Jessica, Michael, and Tessie. In addition, Dale’s legacy continues through 21 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him joy and pride.
Dale graduated from Litchfield Academy and pursued mechanics vocational school in Portland. Throughout his life, Dale was a dedicated member of the Masons, Scottish Rite and Kora Shriner’s Temple. He worked as a mechanic for the Maine Department of Transportation for “27 years and five minutes,” as he fondly liked to say.
Dale not only played for but also coached the Purgatory Pirates in Litchfield, and he was a dedicated fan of his beloved Boston Red Sox. In his youth, Dale found happiness at the Homestead Dance Hall and Camp Lintonia—special places that reflected his father’s legacy and brought him countless cherished memories.
A true craftsman at heart, Dale found great joy in woodworking throughout his retirement years. His passion for the craft was evident in the beautifully handcrafted pieces he created many of which have become treasured legacy gifts for his family, friends, and the wider community.
Dale’s commitment to service included being an active part of the North Baptist Church in Litchfield, where he contributed to building an activity center and volunteered at the Litchfield Food Bank.
In his later years, Dale and Norma settled at Islebrook Village in Wiscasset, where they were warmly embraced by the dedicated staff, who came to regard them as family and lovingly embraced Dale “their Pappy.”
During Dale’s final days, he was cared for at Lincoln Hospital (Miles Memorial Hospital), receiving attentive and compassionate support from both the hospital team and Maine Health Hospice. The exceptional kindness and empathy shown by these caregivers provided immense comfort to Dale and his family, who remain deeply grateful for the support they received during such a difficult time.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 5, at the North Baptist Church, 1881 Hallowell Rd., Litchfield, ME 04350. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. prior to the service.
