Donald Joseph Lizotte
FARMINGDALE – Donald Joseph Lizotte, 70, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 26, 2026, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born in Lewiston on June 9, 1955, to Frederic and Alice (Samson) Lizotte. He graduated from Lewiston High School, Class of ‘74. He attended the University of Maine at Augusta, earning a degree in Criminal Justice. It was there, he met his beloved wife, Vicki.
In 1978, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps serving as a Military Police Officer, with special assignment to Marine Helicopter Squadron One, HMX-1 at the White House. Don was proud to guard President Reagan at Quantico. He was a Marksmanship Instructor for Weapons Training Battalion and Officer Candidate School at Quantico. He joined the Maine State Police in 1982 as a road Trooper, taught classes at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy and was a Firearms Instructor. Don retired as a Detective and Polygraph examiner in 2002. He owned and operated his own private polygraph company, Forensic Polygraph Services.
Accompanied by his wife and son in 2003, Don worked overseas for the Department of Justice ICITAP program as a Senior Law Enforcement Advisor at the US Embassies in Macedonia, Bulgaria, Serbia, Thailand and Barbados. His last international position was with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Mission to Serbia. Wherever he travelled, he made lifelong friends.
Don returned to Maine in 2012 and worked for the Department of Homeland Security Federal Protective Service in security, worked for the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy Sherriff Special Advisor and Judicial Marshall in Augusta and as a night patrolman with the Maine Turnpike Authority. He continued his work in private polygraph and at the time of his passing Don was working as an Investigator with the DHHS Fraud Investigation Unit.
Don had a love for life and always made time for his family. Some of their most treasured memories include camping, mountain biking, hiking and mini golfing in Acadia National Park, skiing and snowboarding at Sugarloaf, mountain boarding with his kids, coaching his daughter J’aime’s soccer teams, and assisting as a Scout Leader for his son Joe’s Troop 609. Don travelled Europe with the love of his life Vicki, forming the most beautiful memories. He cherished every moment he spent with his grandchildren Lucas, Owen and Alice.
Don loved touring on his motorcycle with his wife and close friends. He was a member of the Christian Motorcyclist Association and the Blue Knights Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club. He was a ham radio operator, (call sign: W1DLZ), a drone operator, PADI certified diver, pursued his pilot license and was a member of the Maine Retired Troopers Association. Don was a member of the International Christian Fellowship Church in Belgrade, Serbia and a proud member of Windsor Christian Fellowship where he served on the Safety Team. He lived his life rooted in faith.
He is forever missed by his family and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents Frederic and Alice Lizotte; sister, Lorraine Gronowski; and grand dog, Saber.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Vicki Lynn Lizotte (Bell) of 47 years; daughter, J’aime Fertig (Lizotte) and her husband, Alden Fertig, granddaughter Alice and grand dogs Opal and Peanut of San Rafael, Calif.; son, Joe Lizotte and his wife, Lindsay and grandsons Lucas and Owen of Bremerton, Wash.
His family wishes to thank everyone for their outpouring of support and the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care and Maine General Medical Center.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, May 3 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A funeral service will be held on Monday May 4, at 10 a.m. at Windsor Christian Fellowship, 9 Reed Rd. in Windsor where a celebration of life will immediately follow in the fellowship hall. A committal ceremony with military honors will follow at 1 p.m. at the Maine Veteran’s Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Rd. in Augusta, in Section J.
