The Ticonic Bridge will be closed to all traffic overnight Thursday for construction activities that require access to the entire bridge.

The closure will start at 7 p.m. Thursday and end at 6 a.m. Friday.

During that time, vehicle traffic will be detoured south to use the Carter Memorial Bridge. Pedestrians will be detoured north to use the Two Cent Bridge.

Message boards will be used to alert drivers about the upcoming closure.

When the closure ends Friday, traffic traveling west from Winslow to Waterville should continue to follow the detour to the Carter Memorial Bridge.

This closure is part of a multi-year project to replace the bridge, parts of which are more than 100 years old and past the end of their useful life.

The bridge carries U.S. Route 201 over the Kennebec River.

Cianbro Corp. is the contractor on the project.
