A sedan with eight occupants crashed into a home in St. George around midnight Friday, sending all but one of the occupants to the hospital, one with life-threatening injuries.
The Knox County town is about 13 miles southwest of Rockland.
Eliza Luce, 20, of Union, was driving the Hyundai Sonata when she failed to negotiate a sharp curve at the intersection of Route 73 and Village Road, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
A 16-year-old passenger was flown to a trauma center with life-threatening injuries. Luce was seriously injured, and five other passengers between the ages of 15 and 18 were transported to the hospital with minor injuries. One passenger, Michael Sabins, 19, of Liberty, was not taken to the hospital.
Both vehicle speed as well as drug and alcohol consumption are believed to have contributed to the crash, police say.
