Six of the state’s college lacrosse teams are beginning their playoff runs this week.
The brackets for the Division III lacrosse tournaments have been revealed, with three Maine men’s teams — Bowdoin, Bates and Husson — earning spots on Sunday, and Colby, St. Joseph’s and Husson making it into the women’s field on Monday.
In the men’s bracket, both Bates (11-5) and Bowdoin (16-1) earned first-round byes, and will open their tournaments at home Friday and Saturday, respectively. The Polar Bears, who fell in the NESCAC final Sunday to two-time defending national champion Tufts, will host the winner of Wednesday’s first-round matchup between Scranton and SUNY Maritime at noon Saturday.
The Bobcats, making their first NCAA tournament appearance since 2017, will host as well, and draw the winner of Wednesday’s game between Cortland and Western New England. That game will be at 4 p.m. Friday.
Husson (12-4), which won its first North Atlantic Conference title, will take on Massachusetts Maritime in the first round at 4 p.m. Wednesday, with the winner advancing to play Babson on Saturday. The Eagles beat Maine Maritime Academy in the conference championship game Sunday.
In the women’s bracket, Colby made the cut for the fifth straight year after going 9-7 and reaching the NESCAC quarterfinals. The Mules, a national semifinalist last year, will play Cortland at 1 p.m. Saturday, and with a win would move on to play Wesleyan at 1 p.m. Sunday.
The St. Joseph’s women (17-3) won the Great Northeast Athletic Conference final Saturday, beating Emmanuel, 12-3. The Monks will face Stevens Institute of Technology at 1 p.m. Saturday in Amherst, Massachusetts.
