Cecile Marie (Beaulieu) Roussel
AUGUSTA – Cecile Marie (Beaulieu) Roussel, 80, died peacefully on April 25, 2026, at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on May 5, 1945, in Augusta, Maine, to Rosario and Lucienne P. “Cecile” Beaulieu. Cecile attended Augusta schools and spent the majority of her working years with the Cottle’s Family Supermarket, now Hannaford. She spent many pre-dawn mornings in the bakery department making bread, muffins, and pies before she retired from Hannaford in 1998.
Cecile married Ronald L. Roussel on Sept. 9, 1967, and together they raised their children, Michelle and Richard, in Augusta. Both Cecile and Ron treasured the close relationship they had with their two children, and this love of family grew with the arrival of their grandchildren, Michael Caliandro, Samuel Roussel, Simon Roussel, Emily Caliandro, Tyler Edwards, and Mikaela Edwards.
She was a lifelong communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church, now St. Michael’s Parish. Though illness weakened her body, she was a warrior in her faith. Praying the rosary daily, she was known to have a long list of people she would keep in prayer. What will be missed most about Cecile is her extraordinary sense of humor and eternally positive outlook on life. Cecile would find a silver lining in every situation, and she made it a point to brighten others’ days. She is deeply beloved by many and was a gift to those who knew her. Cecile made everyone feel seen and heard.
Cecile found great joy in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives. Nothing brought her more happiness than a family gathering filled with story sharing, laughter, and an abundance of food. Cecile adored her beloved dog, Lilli, and spent many hours spoiling her. Over the years, she also enjoyed cooking, sewing, and knitting.
Cecile is survived by her children and their spouses, Michelle Roussel Edwards (Carl) of South Gardiner and Richard Roussel (Kelly) of Gorham; and grandchildren, Michael Caliandro of Bangor, Sam Roussel of Portland, Simon Roussel of Westbrook, Tyler Edwards of Winthrop, and Mikaela Edwards of Augusta. Cecile is also survived by her siblings, Rita Nadeau of Augusta, Ann Sirois of Augusta, Raymond Beaulieu (Debbie) of Sidney, Rose Dumont (Bill) of Chelsea, Terry Barnes (Larry) of Randolph, and brother-in-law Andre Roussel (Mary) of Auburn.
Cecile was predeceased by her parents, Rosario and Lucienne Beaulieu; her husband, Ronald Roussel; a cherished granddaughter, Emily Grace Caliandro; her brother, Gerard “Butch” Beaulieu, her sister, Doris Belanger, and her brothers-in-law, Paul E. Roussel (Marcia Roussel), Larry Sirois, Leo Nadeau Jr., and Robert Belanger.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, May 11, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, with prayers and a rosary offered at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 12, at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Augusta, followed by a reception at the Le Club Calumet, 334 West River Road, Augusta. Burial will occur at 9 a.m. on May 27, at the Maine Veterans’ Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Road in Augusta.
The family wishes to extend its heartfelt gratitude to the many caregivers on “Team Cecile” over the past decades. Because of your care and love, Cecile had an extended and enhanced life.
