An Oakland man pleaded guilty Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Bangor to possessing stolen firearms.
Cody Smith, 24, broke into a Waterville pawn shop and stole 23 handguns early in the morning of Aug. 10, 2025, court records state. The break-in was captured on multiple surveillance camera videos. Within hours of the burglary, Smith posted videos of himself on social media displaying some of the stolen firearms and admitting to the break-in.
Smith faces up to 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine. He will be sentenced after the U.S. Probation Office completes a presentence investigative report.
A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors, according to a press release from the District Attorney’s office.
The Waterville Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the case.
