Paul True, who coached Lake Region to the 2014 Class B girls basketball state championship, is the new women’s basketball coach at Central Maine Community College, the school announced Thursday.
True takes over for Andrew Morang, who stepped down after guiding the Mustangs to their fourth United States College Athletic Association Division II championship in March.
True led Lake Region to seven state championship games in his tenure, which started in 2004. He stepped down as the Lakers’ coach after the 2021-22 season. He previously coached at Skowhegan.
True has also served as Lake Region’s athletic director since 2006.
Morang took over the women’s basketball program at CMCC in 2011. He went 376-55 in 14 seasons and won national titles in 2017, 2019 and 2022 in addition to this past season.
