Nancy (Coffin) Lecompte
BELGRADE – Nancy (Coffin) Lecompte 74, passed away unexpectedly on May 2, 2026. Nancy was born Feb. 4, 1952, the daughter of Gerald and Rosemarie Coffin. Nancy grew up and attended schools in Auburn and worked for several small businesses in the Lewiston/Auburn area as a bookkeeper, office manager and motorcycle parts sales manager.
Nancy had strong interests in local Native American history as well as family genealogy. She belonged to several Maine historical societies and genealogy groups. She authored “Alnôbak” A Story of Indigenous People in Androscoggin County” published by the Androscoggin Historical Society. She also founded “Ne-Do-Ba” a nonprofit organization devoted to exploring and sharing the Wabanaki history of Western Maine and helping native families with their family genealogy. She later became involved with genetic genealogy, joining several online groups working together to use the technology to fill in family trees.
Nancy was predeceased by her parents; her sisters, Bonnie Bement and Wendy Mendenhall.
She is survived by her husband Gary Lecompte and sister Nolene “Binky” Coffin.
