Brayden Edwards scored with nine seconds left in the first period to give Wheeling the lead in the Nailers’ 4-1 win over the Maine Mariners in Game 2 of the ECHL North Division finals Saturday night in Wheeling, West Virginia.
Wheeling has a 2-0 lead in the series after winning 4-3 in overtime on Friday night. The series moves to Portland for Game 3 on Monday.
Wheeling took a 1-0 lead 45 seconds in the game when Matthew Quercia scored from Blake Bennett and Alex Kuqali. Maine tied it at 18:45 on a goal by Zach Jordan, but the Nailers quickly took the lead back.
Zach Urdahl and Logan Pietila scored in the second period.
Owen Gallatin and Robert Cronin each had an assist for Maine.
Tyler Gauthier made 32 saves for Wheeling, while Maine’s Luke Cavallin stopped 19 shots.
