David “Dave” Henry Meserve
WEST GARDINER – David “Dave” Henry Meserve passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026, with his family by his side after a brave battle with cancer. Born in Gardiner, to William Meserve and Kathleen Kiley Meserve, Dave grew up in the local community where he would eventually return to live later in life.
Dave’s journey took him to California in 1971, where he began his studies at Chapman College before transferring to California State University, Fullerton. He graduated in 1976 with a bachelor’s in Biology and a minor in European History. After a period living in Massachusetts with his Aunt Grace, Dave returned to the Gardiner area and eventually purchased a home on Lake Cobbosseecontee – a place that remained central to many beautiful memories with friends and family for over two decades.
While Dave worked as a mortgage loan officer for many years, he was known most as a friend to everyone. He possessed a singular ability to maintain deep connections, remaining close with friends from childhood, college, and adulthood with the same attentive spirit. In recent years, he tremendously enjoyed his time with the “Tuesday Group,” whether they were spending the day together on the lake or heading out for dinner at the Depot.
Always quick with a witty joke or an anecdote from a life well-lived, days with Dave were full of love and laughter. A typical afternoon often included a “zip around the lake” to find nesting birds or local landmarks. In his retirement, he loved spending his days at the lake, whether he was enjoying the view from his recliner, watching the Red Sox, or welcoming loved ones for a boat ride. A devoted uncle and granduncle, Dave made his family and friends his priority, and his commitment to showing up for people has left a great hole in the hearts of many.
Dave was predeceased by his parents, William and Kathleen; and his two brothers, Michael Meserve and Dr. John Meserve.
He is survived by his two sisters-in-law, Jessica Brugger Meserve of Kennebunk, and M. Carol Morland of Arlington, Va.; nieces and nephews Ryan Meserve and his wife Annette of Manchester, Mimi Fox and her husband Nicholas of Wallingford, Pa., Molly Auclair and her husband Joseph of Durham, Dr. Chris Meserve and his wife Dr. Amy Schumer of Albuquerque, N.M., Anna Fraser and her husband Kevin of Kailua, Hawaii, and Leah Abalos and her husband Reggie of Leesburg, Va.; grandnieces and nephews Johan, Charlie, Anakin, Daphne, Phoebe, Ezekiel, Henry, and Evelyn.
