Lorraine B. Gingras
MANCHESTER – Lorraine B. Gingras, 92, of Manchester, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2026.
She was born in Brunswick, on July 19, 1933, to Fredric A. and Marie (Theriault) Bonang. Lorraine grew up on Bowker Street in Brunswick, the youngest of nine children, in a very close-knit family. She attended St. Johns Grammar School and graduated from Brunswick High School in 1950 as a member of the National Honor Society. Lorraine continued her education at Gorham State Teachers College, graduating in 1954.
Lorraine’s first teaching job was at Hussey School in Augusta, where she taught second grade the first year it opened and remained there for two years. While living in Augusta, Lorraine met her future husband, Adolphe “Doc” Gingras, in 1954. Doc and Lorraine were married two years later on Aug. 11, 1956.
At the start of their marriage, Doc and Lorraine moved to New Haven, Conn. where Doc pursued his career in insurance, and Lorraine continued hers in teaching. Upon returning to Maine, they settled in Augusta where Lorraine became a stay-at-home mom and enjoyed raising her six children with Doc. Celebrating the holidays was a joy that created lasting memories her family will cherish forever.
Lorraine was predeceased by her loving husband of 64 years; her parents; her sisters Melba Bonang, Annette Bonang, Ella Caron, Theodora Herman, her brothers Raymond Bonang, Alden Bonang, and Claude Bonang; and her infant grandson, Aaron Gingras.
Lorraine leaves behind her six beloved children, Ellen M. Gingras of Gardiner, Susan E. (Ted) Gingras-Eames of Oquossoc, Anne J. Gingras of Augusta, David P. Gingras of Augusta, Stephen J. (Lori) Gingras of Augusta, and Peter M. Gingras of Carrabassett Valley. She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Abigayle Eames and husband Patrick Loftus, Emily (Ian) Perkins, Charles Eames and wife Ellie Crawford, Isabelle Eames, Ian Gingras, Isaac (Amy) Gingras, Thomas Gingras, Henry Gingras; and her great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Sebastian, Ezra, Asher, and Indigo. Lorraine is also survived by her sister, and best friend, Louise Marchildon.
The family extends their sincere appreciation to healthcare workers Katherine McDonald, Louise Ridley, and Lorraine’s niece, Eileen Hussey, for their loving care, as well as the nurses and aides of Beacon Hospice. Also, the family would like to thank Sister Carol Martin for her weekly spiritual visitations.
No visiting hours are being held. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Lorraine’s nephew, Rev. Msgr. Marc Caron, will be held on Thursday, May 21, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 41 Western Ave., Augusta.
