While I was watching the incredible, almost inconceivable, feat of the voyage of Artemis II, it occurred to me that we humans are not living in the moment.
Then, reading the April 12 Maine Sunday Telegram and learning that this is just the beginning — a test flight for future moon missions — made me wonder: How we can afford to do this? What if we used this genius and technology to feed and house everyone on this planet?
What an incredible amount of resources could go to solving world hunger; environmental degradation; dependence on oil, etc.? I get that humans have the urge to keep exploring. I get the huge technological advances the space industry has made and contributed to our daily lives. But what about all the suffering on this planet?
What if we faced the harsh realities and used this knowledge and innovation to fix the problems on planet Earth before spending huge amounts of money to go into space?
