When the Maine Democratic Party announced that Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota was going to be their keynote speaker for the Maine Democrats’ 2026 convention, I immediately thought to myself, “That’s who they picked?”
Gov. Walz is under the national political spotlight for the wrong reasons. Massive fraud has been underway under his nose during his tenure as governor. Walz also made a fool of himself as the Democratic vice presidential nominee two years ago. It’s amusing to me that this was Maine Democrats’ prized, special speaker.
On the contrary, I was ecstatic to see that the Maine Republican Party had Sen. Tim Scott as its banquet speaker. As the senator from South Carolina and the National Republican Senatorial Committee chair, Scott has brought his transformative opportunity zones nationwide; this is exactly the type of brilliant policy that Maine needs.
I’m thankful I was able to attend the banquet because Sen. Scott was knowledgeable, genuine and funny. Fellow delegates and I agreed that he was one of the best speakers the Maine Republican Party has hosted for its biannual banquet.
Scott has spent his time in Washington, D.C., lifting Americans out of poverty, while Walz allowed fraudulent business owners to get rich. This comparison accurately shows why I’m proud to be a Republican.
