In the June 9 Democratic primary for Maine’s 2nd Congressional District, one candidate stands above the others: Matt Dunlap.

He’s the state auditor, and has worked carefully and diligently on Maine’s finances. When he was Maine secretary of state, Dunlap was a member of what was supposed to be an “election integrity” commission to review the 2020 presidential election. He quickly realized this was just a power grab and took the Trump administration to court, successfully ending the commission.

Dunlap is the former executive director of the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine, giving him a solid grounding in this area. He was born and raised in Maine’s 2nd District — he hasn’t moved in from the 1st District or back from another state. Dunlap hasn’t been endorsed by the national Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, but, as we’ve seen, that may be a good thing.

Matt Dunlap is the person to beat Paul LePage.
