The University of Chicago won four of five completed singles matches to clinch a 4-2 win over Bowdoin in an NCAA Division III men’s tennis quarterfinal Tuesday in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Bowdoin (19-5), making its 10th appearance in the quarterfinals and third in the last four years, got off to a good start by winning the first two doubles matches for a 1-0 lead. Jackson Codd and Mark Kneiss prevailed at No. 1 doubles, and Simon Catanzaro and Kiran Garapati won at No. 2 doubles.
Codd also won his singles match, 6-1, 6-2, to give Bowdoin a 2-0 lead, but that was the last point for the Polar Bears. Catanzaro needed just one more point to win his match when Chicago (21-3) ended the quarterfinal by posting its fourth team point.
