Dandelions are popping up on lawns, fields, roadsides and other areas.

The perennial plant with bright yellow flowers evolves into puffball seed heads that easily distributed by the wind.

The flowers often bloom from early spring into fall and have a deep taproot, making them challenging to remove completely by hand.

Many Mainers treat the flower as a lawn weed.
