While Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial start to the summer season, Memorial Day honors those who have died while serving in the U.S. military. Here’s a selected list of parades and ceremonies planned in central Maine, including in Augusta, Gardiner, Sidney, Wayne and Skowhegan.

Anson-Madison-Starks

Memorial Day ceremonies are scheduled at the following locations: 9 a.m. at Starks Town Office, 57 Anson Road, Starks; 9:30 a.m. at the Anson Town Office, 5 Kennebec St., Anson; 10 a.m. at Madison Public Library, 12 Old Point Ave., Madison; 10:30 a.m. at the U.S./Canadian Monument at Forest Hills Cemetery, Park Street in Madison; and at 11 a.m. at East Madison, Joseph Quirion Monument, off East Madison Road in East Madison.

Augusta

The Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery Association is set to hold a Memorial Day ceremony at 10 a.m. at the cemetery on Civic Center Drive.

Gardiner

A parade is planned to begin at 10 a.m. at the Gardiner Armory, Brunswick Avenue, and ends at the Gardiner Common on Water Street for a ceremony.

Sidney

Memorial Day Parade is set to begin at 10 a.m starting and ending at the town office, 2986 Middle Road. All veterans and local groups are invited to join. Bring family and friends to honor all who served.

Skowhegan

A Memorial Day Parade and program are scheduled at 10 a.m. on Madison Avenue, ending at Veterans Memorial Park.

Wayne

Observance starts at 11 a.m., with the parade assembling at the Wayne Community Church parking lot.
