I recently wrote a letter outlining my opinion that Sen. Susan Collins did not deserve reelection. Subsequently, Gov. Janet Mills has suspended her campaign. We are left with either Graham Platner or Collins to be our voice and represent Maine.
What traits do we look for in our leaders? For me, a record of honesty, integrity, achievement, consistency, self-discipline and the ability to work with others. There is no question that Collins has demonstrated all of these qualities.
Platner asks us to believe that he has evolved and frequently implies that his poor behavior is related to PTSD. As a combat veteran (Vietnam), I believe that PTSD is serious and real, but that it is not a “get out of jail free” card.
If we want to know what a person will do in the future, a good place to look is what they have done in the past.
