Joseph William Larrabee

AUGUSTA – Joseph William Larrabee, 67, born on Oct. 23, 1958, in Binghamton, NY, passed away on Friday, May 8, 2026, at Maine General Rehabilitation & LTC – Gray Brich in Augusta.

Joe was a wonderful example of strength and resilience. His indomitable spirit, and his unwavering positivity are traits that will continue to inspire all who have the privilege of knowing him. His family was his pride and joy and he loved them deeply.

Joe graduated from Gardiner Area High School in 1978. He was an avid Red Sox fan; there were not too many games he missed. He also enjoyed NASCAR and watching the Patriots. He loved holiday decorations and celebrations.

Joe was predeceased by his stepmother Judith Larrabee of Brunswick.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Betty and Neal Kelley of South Gardiner; father William Larrabee of Brunswick; sister Diana Larrabee and her partner Mark Billings of West Gardiner. His nephew Justin Douglass and his wife Seanna of Biddeford and niece Kari Douglass of Gardiner were so very special to him, they are better people for having Joe in their lives. He always had an extra-large smile on his face when his great-nieces McKenzee and Valerie would visit and was so proud of his namesake Lucas Joseph.

They, along with countless friends and acquaintances, will miss Joseph’s kindness, his warm heart, and his unwavering spirit.

For the past several years Joe has lived at Gray Birch in Augusta. He enjoyed many friendships over the years with the other residents and staff alike. The family is ever so grateful for the wonderful care he received while a resident there. Sheretha, Donna, Bobbi Jo and Maryann had a special place in Joe’s heart, and his family’s gratitude.

There will be a private family service to be announced at a later date.
