“I believe only American citizens should vote in American elections,” proclaimed Sen. Susan Collins at the Republican State Convention. That’s like saying I believe people should have car insurance or should pay their taxes. It has been the law of the land for generations that only American citizens can vote in U.S. elections, and Collins knows it. Our elections are among the most secure in the world.
The so-called SAVE America Act that Collins supports is built on a lie. There simply is no widespread voting by non-citizens in U.S. elections. Many lawsuits and ballot recounts have repeatedly shown this.
We don’t need more government regulation in elections, nor do we need elected officials sowing suspicion where there is no evidence. We need elected leaders to tell the truth. Our elections are free, fair and secure. But unfortunately, Sen. Collins is more interested in toeing the Republican party line.
