I just finished reading yet another article about energy company profits, and how AI data centers are the reason for rate increases for residential customers.
I don’t get it. Why should residential customers pay for upgrades to the electrical system to support AI data centers? Why not require the company that wants to build the data center pay for any upgrades to the system needed to connect them to the grid? In addition to that, how about charging them enough to offset the rates for residential customers to lower their bills.
It appears the companies wanting all the energy have plenty of money, and should pay more for it. Too bad we here in Maine didn’t buy out CMP when we had a chance to. We wouldn’t have to worry about profits any more.
