Gorham didn’t back into the top spot in the Varsity Maine poll. The Rams earned it, beating last week’s No. 1 South Portland 2-1. More importantly, Gorham now tops the Class A South Heal point standings.

South Portland, which is ranked second after three straight weeks at No. 1, drops in the A South standings to fourth, but has a chance to move up with games against No. 4 Cheverus (second in A South) and No. 8 Thornton (third in A South). Gorham also faces Thornton Academy, meaning the Golden Trojans have a chance to gain ground in A South — and the Varsity Maine poll.

Washington Academy joins the Varsity Maine rankings for the first time this spring. The Raiders are one of the state’s last remaining unbeaten teams.

The Varsity Maine baseball poll is based on games played before May 26, 2026. The top 10 teams are voted on by the Varsity Maine staff, with first-place votes in parentheses, followed by total points.

1. Gorham (6) 86
2. South Portland (2) 74
3. Oxford Hills (1) 72
4. Cheverus 65
5. Bangor 49
6. Mt. Ararat 37
7. Fryeburg Academy 32
8. Thornton Academy 27
9. Washington Academy 20
9. Ellsworth 20
