Debra Lee Marois

AUGUSTA – Debra Lee Marois, 66, of Augusta, passed away peacefully on the morning of May 24, 2026, surrounded by the love of family and friends.

Deb was a kind and compassionate woman whose warmth touched everyone who knew her. She had the fierce determination of a Leo, meeting life’s challenges with courage, strength and unwavering resolve. Whether through a heartfelt conversation, a helping hand, or simply her presence, Deb made people feel seen, valued, and cared for.

Deb took great pride in her career in the printing industry. Her work ethic, knowledge, skill and dedication earned her the respect of colleagues and friends.

Music was one of Deb’s greatest passions and a defining part of her life. She loved to sing and play the guitar, sharing her talent and joy with others through live performances in various bands. She had a strong belief that if the music she wrote and sang made you feel just one thing, then she had accomplished what she set out to do. Her voice, laughter, and love of performing will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

Deb resided in the same Augusta neighborhood for 32 years. She found great fulfillment in caring for her home and she formed many lasting friendships with neighbors.

Deb had a deep love for animals and nature. After feeding the deer, squirrels, and birds, she would quietly watch them with a smile, finding peace and happiness in their presence.

Deb loved life’s simple pleasures, such as spending time at camp, enjoying trips to Old Orchard Beach, attending concerts, road trips to the coast with the sisters, playing the slot machines, and stopping for her favorite Dunkin’ coffee. These moments brought her comfort, laughter, and joy throughout her life.

Deb is survived by her deeply devoted partner of 34 years, Ethel Macklin; sister and best friend, Jacqueline “Jackie” Jean; sister Elizabeth Hopkins and husband Gary; sister Lisa Thompson; brother Stephen Marois and partner Terry Robichaud; sister and goddaughter, Lynn Fortin and husband Gerald; and many extended family members who were touched by her kindness and blessed to love and know her.

Deb would want to express her deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to her MaineGeneral Medical Center team, led by Dr. Sariah Liu. Their extraordinary compassion, skilled care, and unwavering comfort bought dignity and peace throughout her time with them.

A gathering to celebrate Deb will be held at the Manchester Lions Club on Saturday May 30, from 4-6 p.m.

“Those we love never truly leave us. They live on in the songs they sang, the love they gave, and the memories they leave behind.”

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kennebec Valley Humane Society Augusta.
