State investigators have ruled a fire Sunday night that injured one person and heavily damaged the building at 430 Main St. in Wilton was accidental in nature.

The building housed Chaos Coffee Cafe on the first floor, with a rental unit and an apartment located on the second and third floors.

A tenant was taken by ambulance to Franklin Hospital in Farmington for treatment of smoke inhalation and then released, according to Shannon Moss, public information officer for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

“The fire caused extensive damage to the rear portion of the café and food preparation area,” Moss wrote. “Smoke, heat, overhaul, and water damage extended throughout the building, rendering the structure uninhabitable.”

Wilton Fire Rescue and other fire service departments responded to the report of a structure fire at 6:57 p.m.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions on the rear right side of the three-story wood-frame building, the release said.

The Farmington, Jay, East Dixfield, and Chesterville fire departments provided mutual aid assistance to the Wilton Fire Department. No firefighter injuries were reported during suppression operations.
