She was born in Royalton, Pa., the daughter of Hartford and Beatrice Boyer on Jan. 20, 1931. She attended schools in Middletown, Pa., and graduated from high school in 1949. Upon graduation, she joined the United States Marine Corps and was stationed in Hawaii. She later worked at S.D. Warren as the store’s manager until her retirement.

She also volunteered at the Skowhegan Food bank for many years, would set up the altar at the All-Saints Church in Skowhegan, and volunteered at the local Elk’s Lodge #2531. Jo and her husband Richard were also the previous owners and managers of the Old Mill Pub in Skowhegan from 1988 to 1995.
She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Evans Nickerson; and her great-grandson, Landon Evans Nickerson.
She is survived by her stepdaughter, Dawn Curtis of Florida, daughter, Debby Jo Maguire of Norridgewock, son, Mark Evans Nickerson and wife Lidi Jiang of Skowhegan, daughter, Rene Lynn Nickerson and spouse Douglas Cundy of Fayette. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Dylan Nickerson and his wife Casie Rae and their daughter Emma of Maryville, Tenn.; and Garrett Nickerson and wife Toni and their daughter, Chloe of Cornville. To the Boyer family and friends, Mom was grateful for the support and love.
