Several weeks ago, three of the Democratic candidates for governor decided to form a “holy alliance” — all of them proudly backed by the Sierra Club of Maine. They are asking supporters to follow their charitable support for one another by ranking each other after, of course, a vote for themselves, in the hopes this will draw away votes from Dr. Nirav Shah.
Realizing that Shah still outranked all of them in recent polling, they decided that more needed to be done and invited the “poster boy” for the left to a news conference, the frosting on the cake!
I have been a strong supporter of ranked-choice voting because it offers an opportunity to keep sneaky maneuvers out of politics. This, I believe, was not the intent of RCV.
