I find Kathleen Sullivan’s recent op-ed concerning Dr. Nirav Shah (“Is a warm, fuzzy feeling enough to make Nirav Shah governor?” May 27) troubling. The great majority of professional mental health providers avoid diagnosing or psychoanalyzing individuals who are not in direct treatment with them.
That Ms. Sullivan opts to psychoanalyze Shah supporters en masse, using the dynamic of transference, is questionable as to professional ethics and diminishing to individuals who support Dr. Shah for rational and informed reasons.
