I have been following President Trump’s executive order to stymie mail-in voting. This seems unconstitutional, because it is a state’s right to determine federal voting rules. The record shows that mail-in voting improves voter turnout and helps rural states such as Maine. The federal judge who is holding up this decision, Judge Carl Nichols, got Sen. Susan Collins’ confirmation vote.
Another judge confirmed by Collins, Aileen Cannon, buried the presidential records case, where Trump stole classified documents, shared them inappropriately , and stored them in an unsecured bathroom at Mar-a-Lago. We got no justice for this serious crime.
If we look at the conservative Supreme Court justices confirmed by Collins in the past 20 years, Justices Roberts, Alito, Gorsuch, Coney Barrett and Kavanaugh, deciding controversial cases, such as Citizens United, gutting the EPA and Voting Rights Act, presidential immunity and abortion rights, one has to ask, “Have these votes by Collins helped the common person, or not?”
