Robert E. Williams Sr.

MOUNT VERNON – Robert E. Williams Sr., 78, died on Monday, June 1, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer, his loving family was by his side. Bob was born in Augusta, Maine on March 13, 1948, the son of the late Jack F. and Gladys E. (Pettengill) Williams.

On Sept. 3, 1966, Robert married the love of his life, Jeanette M. Harris. Together they shared more than 50 years of marriage before her passing in 2017.

Bob was a hard-working man who did what ever was needed to provide for his family. He worked in the shoe shops in Livermore and surrounding towns, worked in the Poultry Barns in Readfield, the Pallet Mill in Readfield, the transfer station for the Town of Mount Vernon and the Mount Vernon Elementary School as a custodian. He was always busy and would help anyone who needed it.

When not working, Bob loved hunting and fishing, being in the outdoors was his favorite place to be. He loved the many cats and dogs he has had over the years and especially liked raising chickens.

Bob was predeceased by his wife, Jeannett Williams; a brother, John Williams and a sister, Shirley Collins. He is survived by a daughter, Tina Gorden of Livermore Falls, two sons, Bobby and Jenny Williams of Missouri and Scott and Denise Williams of Mount Vernon; a brother, Roger and Ellie Williams of Sabattus, three sisters, Sally Manson of Lewiston, Priscilla Mercier of Monmouth and Robin Williams of Boothbay Harbor; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours celebrating Bob’s life will be held on Monday, June 8, 2026, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin Street, Winthrop, Maine. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Mount Vernon Community Cemetery, corner of Bean Road and North Road, Mount Vernon, Maine.
