The Portland Sea Dogs snapped a three-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over the Hartford Yard Goats on Sunday in Portland.
The Sea Dogs improve to 29-27, 1 1/2 games behind the Yard Goats in the Eastern League’s Northeast Division with 12 games to go in the first half of the season. Hartford falls to 30-25.
Portland starting pitcher Gage Ziehl surrendered just one run in six innings and struck out eight Hartford batters en route to his second win of the year.
After going behind 1-0, catcher Ronald Rosario tied the game with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth. It was Rosario’s third home run this season. In the fifth, center fielder Nelly Taylor scored what would be the game-winning run on an infield hit by third baseman Ahbram Liendo.
The Sea Dogs are on the road next week for a six-game series in Reading before returning to Portland to host the Somerset Patriots.
