Bonny Eagle defeated Gorham for the second time this season on June 2 and appears to have caused a shuffle between the No. 2 and No. 8 spots in the Varsity Maine softball poll. The Scots jumped two places to fourth, behind Oxford Hills and Medomak Valley, who each moved up one slot from last week’s rankings.
Gorham dropped from second to fifth — this is the Rams’ first time outside the top-4 this season — and Westbrook, which as beaten Bonny Eagle twice, rose from seventh to sixth. York also moved up a spot. Lewiston hasn’t lost since May 11 (a span of seven games that includes a victory over Oxford Hills), but was a victim of the “Bonny Eagle shuffle,” falling from fifth to eighth.
Gardiner rejoins the rankings after a week away. Cheverus is ranked No. 1, as it has been in every poll this spring. The Stags (16-0) are one of three teams to finish the regular season undefeated, along with Penobscot Valley and Katahdin of Class D North.
Four teams in the top-10 enter the postseason as the No. 1 seeds in their regions: Cheverus (A South), Oxford Hills (A North), Medomak Valley (B South) and Hermon (B North).
The Varsity Maine softball poll is based on games played before Tuesday, June 9, 2026. The top 10 teams are voted on by the Varsity Maine staff, with first-place votes in parentheses, followed by total points.
