RICHMOND — Robert “Bucky” Bodge and Marilyn Gritzkewitsch were elected to the Board of Selectmen on Tuesday.

The pair, competing with two other candidates for two three-year positions on the board, defeated O’Neil LaPlante and Stephen Caswell.

Bodge, the incumbent chairman of the board, received 479 votes, easily the top vote-getter, while Gritzkewitsch earned 355 votes. LaPlante received 233 votes, and Caswell 223 votes, in defeat.

Three of the candidates have local elected experience. This will be Bodge’s fourth three-year term. Grizkewitsch and LaPlante have each served on the board previously. Caswell, a former fire chief in Richmond — and, briefly, Manchester — was the only political newcomer on the ballot.

Two proposed land use ordinance changes were also approved by voters Tuesday, one by only 25 votes, 425 to 400, while the other passed by a 442 to 380 vote.

Residents also voted to validate the school budget, 638 to 279. The $9.1 million spending plan is about $289,000, or 3.3%, higher than the current year’s budget. The budget will be funded by $5.4 million from local taxpayers, an increase of $210,000, or 4%, according to Superintendent Chad Kempton.

State funding for Richmond schools, at $3.4 million, is down $103,000 from the current year.

Residents at the annual town meeting June 2 approved both the proposed $3.6 million town budget and $9.1 million school budget. Tuesday’s vote validated the school budget, as required by state school funding rules.

All results are unofficial.
